About Our Farm

The Alpaca Shack is a wonderfully serene, small Alpaca farm in the quiet hills of Berne, New York.  Set against the scenic forest and rolling pastures around us, it seems to be a place specifically designed for the tranquil spirit of the Alpaca.
The Alpaca Shack is committed to being the kind of farm that puts relationships with people first, and understands that the success of our own farm is dependent upon helping other breeders, whether experienced or just starting out, to be successful as well.  We believe that the most enjoyable and rewarding part of raising Alpacas is becoming part of the Alpaca community, and experiencing the fulfillment of helping others to begin and thrive in this unique lifestyle.  One of the real blessings of staying small as a breeder is that we can ensure a very high, personable level of service to our clients.  On your first visit, we're sure that you'll walk away with, at the very least, a few new friends.

It has been said that a key to success is to "do one thing, and do it well."We are very focused on producing black and gray Alpacas , and will always put our quality before the quantity of Alpacas we sell.  We would rather offer a very specific type of Alpaca, and work toward constantly refining our breeding process as we strive to produce animals with the highest quality fiber and conformation.  A small herd also allows us to closely monitor animal behavior and health.  All our Alpacas are registered with The Alpaca Registry, have frequent examinations, and are tested yearly for viruses such as BVDV.

Our farm consists of three centrally located pastures that give a very cozy, secure feeling to the farm.  Even on our lowest pasture, all of our Alpacas are easily visible from the house.  The changing of the seasons turns The Alpaca Shack from a breezy mountain refuge in the summer, to a golden display of color in the fall, and then again to a winter wonderland with the allure of a Christmas lodge with snow laden pine trees.

It's certainly worth a visit...
